I Samuel 24
All I can say about David here is “Wow!”. He is living on the run, moving from place to place, living in caves and wherever he can find a safe place. And he has done nothing wrong, nothing to justify King Saul pursuing him to kill him. He’s not sure who he can trust. Even people he helped save would turn their back on him and turn him over the Saul. Not a course that anyone would envy. And then the unthinkable happens. It just happens that Saul goes to relieve himself in the very cave that David and his men are hiding in. This is it, the opportunity to end all this running. The life of the one pursuing him unjustly is delivered into his hands. With one thrust of his blade he could turn everything around. No more running and the kingdom (that has already been prophesied to be his) would be his for the taking. But he can’t do it! He has so much respect and faith in God’s plan that he knows this couldn’t possibly be the way it was supposed to happen. Saul was God’s anointed king and as long as God kept Saul alive David knew it was not his time. The easy thing is not always the right thing. God promised to give David the throne so David knew he didn’t have to take it by force. Trust God to deliver on His word …in the right way …and at the right time.
